If you are an adventurous person who loves travelling and exploring then it cannot be possible that your bucket list does not include a visit to the legendary Lost City of the Inca but there are 5 things you must know about hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu before you go there:
WHEN TO GO?
Many people are confused that what time is best to hike the Inca trail? Well according to tour guides the best season is dry season which is May to September because it has less chance of rainfall. Inca Trail opens every year from 1 March to next year’s January 31. Usually, people prefer to go in July which makes July the crowded month. My advice for you would be to visit Inca Trail between April to October but remember one thing whenever you like to go, “Must book in advance.” because only 500 people are allowed to enter in a day that is why reservation should be made 6 to 8 months before.
WHAT STUFF TO CARRY?
Packing is the most important question to be raised when it comes to travelling. Here are few things that you must have to carry along with you on the hiking:
- Water bottle
- Rain poncho
- Sleeping bag and sleeping pad
- Hiking boots
- Sun protection stuff (sun cream, hat, sun glasses, etc.)
- Basic Medicine
- Trekking poles
- Trekking clothes
- Bug and mosquito spray
- Hand sanitizer and anti-mosquito cream
- Portable charger
- Good camera, Of course
Last but not the least, your Passport!! Your passport should be valid with which you made reservation. If your passport has been expired, keep that one too with your new one.
IS IT NECESSARY TO USE TREKKING AGENCY?
I say YES! It is really necessary and required. Independent entry is restricted, only authorized agencies can operate Inca Trail. Trekking agency not only arrange transportation for you but also, they will tell you about the history, fact and detail about the place. They put a lot of effort to make a journey worth remembering.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE DAYS YOU SPENT THERE?
You may be spending 4 days there and these 4 days are going to be the most exciting journey for you. You should be ready to see high mountain which was made 500 years ago. The first day will be the easiest day. On first day, you have to wake up early and have to do some warm. You may hike for 6-7 hours.
The second is going to be a little challenging for you as compared to first day. On second day, you will hike for like 8-9 hours. It will be a tiring day but relax soon it is going to be pay off. Your good physical condition plays huge role in this trip.
Don’t ask me about 3rd day because it is the most “unforgettable” day for the hikers. On this day you will be encountered with the natural beauty that is going to be in your memory for the lifetime.
The fourth day will be the pay off day because on that day you will catch your first glimpse of Machu Picchu. It is a thousand times more beautiful than in pictures.
HOW DIFFICULT IS THE INCA TRAIL HIKE?
Sophisticated answer of this question will be: No, it is not difficult although it is challenging, here your only partner will be your backup. However, every person’s experience of hiking is varying from person to person. Your most amazing journey can be turned into a nightmare because of the wrong choice of weather season, fraud trekking agency and bad fitness.
Indeed, Inca Trail is the best choice. You will enjoy every moment there. I hope most of the questions that you were thinking about have been answered.
